Fence

MDF, gloss paint, 2002

This large sculptural installation is a fence constructed in perspective. Inhabiting both pictorial and physical space, the piece takes a pragmatic functional artefact and reduces it to an aesthetic device - a visual prop in the same way as travel brochures use such devices to frame views of sublime nature. It hovers between its pictorial presence and its physical manifestation within the gallery space. It is both an image and a physical reality to be negotiated.

This piece was made for exhibition at Fa Projects, London.
